Do your weekend plans include watching Wonder Woman? If so, you’re in store for an epically entertaining movie AND you’ll leave the theatre with some valuable public relations lessons. Grab your popcorn and prepare to be amazed.

Embrace Your Wonder Woman Strength

PR Daily is dishing out a lasso of truth with four PR lessons from the mega hit Wonder Woman. Our favorite lesson is about finding your strengths and skills. Even though Wonder Woman is incredibly strong and capable, she sometimes doubts herself and her mission. What’s the lesson for a PR pro? It can be easy to have self-doubt when you’re bogged down with deadlines and chasing lofty goals. When you’re feeling uncertain, remember why you’re in the industry and what you love about PR. Sometimes reflecting on the past can also help you recall your strengths and skills too!

Cool, Calm & Collected

Former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony was one of the hottest headlines of the week, and it provided some helpful examples on how to prepare a spokesperson for an intense line of questioning.

  1. Set an image goal. Think about the image you want to project in front of the camera, and then respond/behave accordingly.
  2. Be unequivocal and clear. No one likes to listen to an interview when the person is constantly dodging questions. Even if there are questions you’d prefer not to answer, state the reason why you can’t comment.
  3. Be honest about your shortcomings. Be upfront about your flaws and remain humble. Comey even used the word “cowardly” when explaining why he didn’t protest President Trump’s request that he drop the investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
  4. Be human. Even though Comey’s testimony was intense in nature, he still wove in moments of humor that let the audience see his personality beyond his serious professional reputation.

Go Beyond Changing Up the Filters

Your client’s Instagram following has plateaued. What do you do? PR News shares six steps to revitalize the brand. Here are a few highlights:

  • Focus on what’s being responded to, but focus more on what’s being shared. Overall reach is important, but look more at what posts are being celebrated and apply that approach to future posts.
  • User-generated content drives Instagram engagement which provides a great opportunity to repurpose content created by consumers, but make sure to give proper credit!
