Weekly rewind: Our favorite stories from around the web

Weekly Rewind 4-15

You know when you go all day thinking it’s Friday, but it’s actually Thursday? Today is not one of those days. If that’s not enough reason to be happy, it’s time to recap our favorite stories from this week!

Tickets at Face(book) Price

By the end of this month, Ticketmaster will begin selling tickets to specific events via Facebook. Users will also be able to see which events their friends plan on attending. You can definitely count on the subtle braggers on your friends list to abuse this feature. I, on the other hand, will utilize this tool to see who’s going where. That way, I can save myself $200 by visiting their profile when they broadcast the event via Facebook Live. #balleronabudget

The End of an Era

Wednesday night’s events pushed the game of basketball into a completely different era. Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors in breaking the record for most wins previously set by the 1996 Chicago Bulls (i.e. the last team Michael Jordan played on). Kobe Bryant also stepped on the court for the last time after 20 years with the Los Angeles Lakers. The only thing bigger than Kobe’s career was the amount of advertising used to announce his retirement. Check out the plethora of commercials launched in light of his goodbye.

Willett? It Will.

Apparently, being clutch is a dominant trait in the Willett family gene pool. This year, the Masters was won by Danny Willett, an English golfer who almost didn’t play in the tournament due to the expected birth of his first child. Willett’s son was born 11 days before his due date, allowing his dad to play at Augusta and bring home a green jacket in a last minute run against defending champion, Jordan Spieth. While Danny won the Masters, his brother Peter won Twitter due to his humorous posts during Sunday’s round. Peter drank, swore, and gave his brother wise advice through his last few holes. What else are older brothers for?

The Perfect Pitch

As public relations professionals, we understand pitching to reporters is tough, especially when you’re new to the industry. Although the best way is to learn through experience, everyone could use a little lifeline. Keep this checklist handy to make sure your attempt at getting news coverage isn’t a swing and a miss.

Up & Up

Airline reputations are soaring as a vast majority of travelers claim to be overall satisfied with their experiences in 2015. According to a recent study by Airlines for America, flying is now seen as more affordable and accessible than ever. This is due in part to more flexible plans, including a-la-carte pricing which allows customers to choose where they spend their money. The study shows that airlines plan to keep making flying even more convenient for customers. Personally, my favorite feature about planes is that they don’t fly higher than 50 feet through the power of me closing my eyes until we land.
