James Beard Award-nominated chef and founder of critically acclaimed Tei Tei, Teppo & Tei-An restaurants to open fresh fish market next to artisan butcher and organic grocer at the North Oak Cliff/West Dallas mixed-use development
Dallas, August 1, 2012 – Award-winning local Japanese chef Teiichi Sakurai has signed on as the latest tenant at Sylvan | Thirty, the highly anticipated mixed-use development that’s about to break ground at the crossroads of North Oak Cliff and West Dallas. Teiichi will be opening a yet-to-be-named fresh fish market in the corner building at the intersection of Sylvan and Fort Worth Avenues. There will be a direct connection to the building with organic grocer Cox Farms Market and Matador Meat & Wine, a custom-cut butcher and wine shop. The fish market continues to round out the specialty food experience at Sylvan | Thirty.
“Teiichi’s fish market is a great fit for what we’re creating at Sylvan | Thirty — a central shopping hub of the West Dallas and North Oak Cliff neighborhoods. It’s a wonderful complement to the other local and independent concepts that have committed to the project,” said Brent Jackson, president of Sylvan | Thirty developer Oaxaca Interests. “Folks will be able to drive, walk or bike to pick up groceries, grab dinner and just hang out with friends over a cup of coffee.”
The fish market is the sixth tenant at Sylvan | Thirty to be announced and will join Cox Farms Market, Matador Meat & Wine, Pearl Cup Coffee, Sync Yoga & Wellness and a culinary incubator, overseen by chef Sharon Hage. Developers continue working with their hand-picked, award-winning future tenants that include a baker, confectioner and three diverse restaurant concepts.
Teiichi has been nominated multiple times for the prestigious James Beard Award, commonly called the “Oscars of the food world.” His popular restaurants, which include Tei-An in One Arts Plaza, Tei Tei Robata Bar in the Knox-Henderson area and Teppo Yakitori and Sushi Bar on Lower Greenville, have made “The Best” lists in publications ranging from The Dallas Morning News and Dallas Observer to bon appetit and Travel + Leisure. (Teiichi sold Tei Tei and Teppo in 2001.)
