TBG-designed waterpark boosts business for Gaylord Texas Resort

In just three months since opening, new waterpark boosts resort’s leisure travel sales 40 percent

TBG PartnersDallas/Grapevine, Texas, September 29, 2011 – The Gaylord Texan’s new 10-acre, $13-million Paradise Springs waterpark, designed by landscape architecture and land planning firm TBG Partners, has proven successful for the resort in just three months since its Memorial Day opening — boosting the resort’s leisure travel business by nearly 40 percent.

“We were charged with creating a summer destination to attract guests to the resort during its down season, and we’ve definitely achieved that,” said Kent Mendenhall, principal at TBG Partners. “But this project wasn’t just about creating an amazing waterpark for leisure travelers, we also designed the waterpark with an eye for enhancing the Gaylord Texan’s business sales, as well. For example, we created special areas that can be reserved for outdoor corporate events and parties, without eliminating other guests from enjoying the pool.”

Gaylord Texan’s Paradise Springs waterpark features a 600-foot-long winding lazy river, a 6,000-square-foot family lagoon, a 27-foot-tall winding waterslide, two horseshoe-shaped hot pools and a toddler pool, as well as 1,200 seats for relaxing poolside, including chaise loungers, beach chairs, family-style rounds and private cabanas. The waterpark’s outdoor game pavilion offers bocce ball, croquet, tossers, shuffleboard and a large campfire pit. The waterpark is free to hotel guests.
